In Bangladesh shops look like heaven with their large variety of affordable traditional handicrafts. In the ancient period muslin produced in Dhaka was well acclaimed. Various  items like wood work, cotton, jute, Gold and silver (filigree work) ornament, silk, gold, silver, contemporary paintings, shital pati (mattress having cooling effect) cane and conch, shell items, folk dolls, handloom fabric, printed saris, bamboo decorative pieces, deed and leather goods are very popular with art and craft lovers. Since then the tradition of handicrafts got carried on adding up another valuable gem ‘The Pink Pearl’ to its lineage. Even today it is the best-buy commodity in Dhaka.   

Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (NTO) runs duty free shopping centers in Dhaka and at the major airports. These shops sell a wide collection of products at reasonable prices. Goods available are wine, spirits, perfumes, cigarettes, stereo systems, cameras, watches and house appliances. The shops also accept foreign currencies.
